The Southern Wind 25th Anniversary Rendezvous and Trophy will take place from May 24th to 25th in Capri. The anniversary celebration events will be held within the Rolex Capri International Regatta, sponsored by Rolex and organized in collaboration with the Yacht Club Italiano, the Yacht Club Capri and the Circolo Canottieri Aniene.

“This is a sentimental journey both for me and for Southern Wind”, says Willy Persico, CEO of SWS. “I grew up sailing in these waters and we held the first Southern Wind Trophy in Capri in 1998. It’s very nice for us to come back here to celebrate this special anniversary year and to hold the thirteenth edition of the Southern Wind Trophy.”

Nine Southern Wind yachts ranging from the newly launched SW102 Seawave to the classic racer cruiser SW78 Whisper will be arriving for the Trophy and four yachts ranging from the SW94 Lady G to the SW102 Hevea will follow the fleet for the Rendezvous. Southern Wind yachts will race against each other for the coveted Trophy while also competing in the Rolex Capri International Regatta.
While defending champion SW82 Grande Orazio by Pioneer Investments is perhaps the most “dangerous” yacht in the Southern Wind fleet, with a long string of victories in the Mediterranean superyacht regatta circuit since her launch in 2014, all eyes will be on the newly launched SW102 Seawave, this year’s debutante. Grande Orazio won the Trophy on her first try, who knows if Seawave won’t be able to do the same?
More than half of the total thirteen Southern Wind yachts arriving for the anniversary celebration are part of the successful Farr-Nauta designed SW100 series, both in the DS and RS versions. These range from hull number one, Farewell, launched in 2006, to L’Ondine, Illusion of the Isles, Farandwide, Mrs. Marietta Cube, Blues and Cape Arrow, a yacht with a long string of victories in both Med and Caribbean regattas and an excellent charter history. The SW100 series saw a total of thirteen yachts launched over six years of production, a record for this size range.

The SWS Trophy attracts a faithful group of owners, many of whom have participated in in several different editions: some of this year’s comebacks are Farewell, Illusion of the Isles and L’Ondine. Mrs. Marietta Cube’s owner also deserves special mention because not only has he participated in several editions of the Trophy, but he has also been the owner of three different Southern Wind yachts.

The stalwart Whisper, hull number one in the Reichel/Pugh Nauta designed SW78 mini series and famous on the regatta circuit for her 2009 Rolex Fastnet win amongst many others, is another Trophy regular. She is back now after an extensive refit. The SW100 Blues has recently been optimized for racing after her owner, now a racing enthusiast, caught the regatta bug.

Along with the fun and competition on the water, Southern Wind owners will also enjoy a series of exclusive dinners and events ranging from Axa Millesimes wine tastings, to a cocktail at Capri’s new Emilio Pucci boutique, to a dinner at the Villa Verde restaurant. Capri’s famous Canzone del Mare restaurant with its breath taking views over the Faraglioni rocks will be the setting for the Southern Wind Anniversary dinner on the 26th, with the participation of Bruno Acampora perfumes. TheRolex owners dinner at the Quisisana Hotelon the 27th will close the socialprogramme, followed by the prize giving on the afternoon of the 28th.

Southern Wind Shipyard thanks its special partners in this event, Axa Yachting Solutions, Raymarine, and Profumi Acampora.
