The SW78 Southern Star, last unit of Southern Wind Shipyard’s iconic SW78 miniseries by Reichel/Pugh and Nauta Design, captured the winner’s spot in the “Racing IRC” division of the 32nd edition of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, better known as the ARC. Organized by the
World Cruising Club since 1986, this race sees a fleet of 180 boats of all sizes sailing from Gran Canaria to Santa Lucia, 2700 nm and an entire ocean away.
Chartered for the occasion by a motivated team of Russian students from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, an exclusive university outside Moscow, Southern Star proved to be the perfect yacht to sail the ocean in performance and comfort. Crew and guests had the opportunity to experience an oceanic crossing, alternating moments of competitive sailing with moments of relaxation, fishing and even swimming when the weather conditions allowed.
Andrea Calabria, the yacht’s proud captain, said: ”These guys took the oceanic crossing very seriously. Their training included spending 24 hours floating in a life raft in a very cold swimming pool in Moscow!”
Once in the Caribbean Island of Gran Canaria, the team of students expressed their satisfaction for this unforgettable experience, made even more special by the professional but carefree atmosphere they created on board.
Southern Star has still some availability for charter in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
Launched in 2004, Southern Star is for sale at the asking price of € 2.000.000 (VAT PAID)
