In a recent article, SuperyachtTimes unveils the interiors of the first hybrid SW108 smart custom yacht. An excerpt of the article can be viewed below.
In July 2022, SuperYacht Times had the chance to sit down with the enthusiastic and experienced owners of the very first hybrid Southern Wind 108. Designed following the shipyard’s new approach to semi-custom yacht design, Smart Custom, the super sailing yacht has been carefully tailored to her owner’s specifications and now SuperYacht Times has been given the chance to view her interior design for the first time.
Designed inside and out by the team at Nauta Design under Massimo Gino, the first SW108 features a completely new design from the original model, as Massimo explained during an interview with Justin Ratcliffe. “The client pushed for a new design, with a different quantity of wood compared with bright panels and the owner has been very involved with the interior styling.” From the first render, the result of this process is an elegant and refined interior aesthetic, utilising a neutral palette with warm undertones that are reflected in the wooden panelling.
One of the most striking features of the two-level saloon is a cleverly conceived lounge sofa on the lower level which moulds into the upper level sofa and acts as a unifier between the two spaces. Not only does this custom designed piece of furniture ingeniously combine the two levels of the saloon, it also adds an organic and flowing form to the interior design that opens the space and draws the eye through the saloon. This organic, flowing form is echoed throughout the interior, with soft forms and rounded edges that lend the interiors a very natural look. This connection with nature is really paramount to the yacht’s design, and the large windows throughout the SW108 emphasise this element, with light flooding in from the sides and from the deck hatches.
