The SW120 is the flagship of the Southern Wind Shipyard’s range of semicustom bluewater performance sailing yachts. A superb development on the SW96 and SW105 that have already proven the successful collaboration of Southern Wind, Farr Yacht Design and Nauta Yachts

The design brief begins with Southern Wind’s underlying principle of creating dependable sailing yachts that combine comfort and performance without compromising on safety and reliability.

The SW120 is a versatile semi-custom design platform offering owners the flexibility to tailor the specification and give the yacht her own unique personality.  This practical and efficient alternative to a full custom yacht provides owners numerous benefits from cost saving to increased reliability as demonstrated with the successful SW105 mini-series.  Naval Architect Farr Yacht Design has created the SW120 following a multipurpose design brief for a superyacht that may be optimized with her owner’s specific intentions in mind.  Whether the priorities are long range cruising, Bucket racing or to build the perfect charter yacht, the SW120 may serve as starting point for an owner allowing a wide variety of options and solutions to customize the yacht and achieve their desired specification.  Performance is embodied in every SWS yacht and the SW120 will deliver the thrill of exhilarating sailing with a fantastic helming experience and the ability to sail with a limited crew.

Nauta Yacht Design have drawn on their expertise and designed the deck and interior of the SW120 to combine functionality with sublime beauty and elegance. A selection of arrangements have been developed to start a conversation with an owner and the large interior and exterior volumes will allow for a variety of configurations.

On the wake of the SW105 project success, the SW120 is offered into 3 different deck configurations: Raised Saloon, Deck Saloon and Gran Turismo. The latter inspired by the freshly designed deck of the fourth unit in the SW105 miniseries, which stands out for the sexy lines of a sleek carbon coachroof, conceived to feature a skylight, bring light to the saloon.

Typically,, Southern Wind owners have chosen the classical four cabin interior arrangement with master cabin forward and crew aft but the interior of the SW120 will also allow for a full beam master cabin aft with direct access to the stern cockpit.

The SW120 will be constructed in Corecell composite sandwich utilizing the infusion technique, a tried and tested system that allows for a lightweight yet stiff and durable construction.  Nomex and pre-preg may also be implemented in certain areas depending on the weight targets.

Defining the next step in the legacy of Southern Wind Shipyard, the SW120 combines all the knowledge and experience gained from numerous prior superyacht construction together with latest design trends and innovations to conceive the ultimate performance sailing yacht with oceangoing capability.
